Motorisation of blinds (Would you watch T.V without a remote?)

For Interior Blinds

For inside blinds the most popular blind to be remote controlled hence motorised is the Roller Blind.  The question becomes why would I remote control my blind and I might also ask, is it too extravagant? Is it too expensive?

Well there are practical reasons why it does make sense.

Firstly lets not beat around the bush, it is more convenient especially when you have a big home with a lot of windows or big expands.  A way to beat the cost is to link the blinds and have one motor control multiple blinds.

Coupled with this is that the blinds can be programmed so that they can be set for particular times of the day to go up or down.  More on that later!

Sometimes height is an issue.  Stairs, highlight windows and second story homes with feature windows are all examples where a blind is necessary however a chain or cord is not really practical.  This also leads onto the point that there are no cords which has obvious child safety benefits.  No cords look tidier.

Some blinds especially Blockout fabrics can be heavy to pull up.  Even sunscreen fabrics in large sizes require an element of strength to operate.  This can mean for older people having a remote control motorised blind is a perfect option.

For external blinds

With exterior blinds it makes perfect sense to automate.  The convenience of pressing a button inside your home to control an exterior blind allows for controlling the elements.  Exterior blinds whether they are retractable fabric awnings or aluminium roller shutters can be controlled either with a wall switch or remote control, they can also be programmed into a management system for specific times of the day.  It’s a good idea to motorize exterior awnings not only for the convenience but also for hard to reach places like second stories or due to the weight of the awnings.  It can take effort on large blinds to pull up.

The installation of motorised blinds does not need to be complicated.

Three main options for motorisation installation include wiring the motor to a wall switch, wiring the motor to mains power which is then operated from a hand held remote control or for more sophisticated systems wiring into a management system which can then control programming for different scenarios including operating depending on time of day etc. We will test the blind and set the up and down position ready for an electrician.  The possibilities can be endless.  Of course this is all done by an experienced licensed electrician.

While the initial cost of motorisation adds an additional cost to the overall cost of the product, the convenience and ease of use over the life of the product will be worth it.

Renovating and finding out why blinds are so important

We recently had our house painted on the inside which was a job we had been putting off for many months due to a number of reasons however we decided to get the job done.

We waited for, hopefully a dry week, and we pulled the place apart starting one room at a time with moving furniture, taking down pictures etc and taking down our existing window furnishings.

The first thing we noticed about not having blinds up is that without having a blind to the window and with winter  upon us is that our house felt really cold.  We happened to start painting while it was dry and clear however it had started to get cold.  The second thing we noticed was that our privacy was compromised.  While we live ruraly and don’t run around the house naked potentially anyone (including family)  looking our way could see what we were doing and we really weren’t used to that.

The other thing was that the windows seemed bare.  It hit home to us that whilst blinds have many functions one of those is creating a stylish décor and it doesn’t need to be expensive or fancy.

After four days of painting and then putting all the furniture back in place, cleaning up and rehanging our blinds we were really happy with the result.  And again it showed the many reasons why blinds are so important to the overall function of your home.

The Sale – The Service/Product, The Price, The Outcome

What part of the sale do you recall?

Each time it is based on various emotions and feelings.

Most of us have had the experience of dining out and experienced poor service or meals….. when asked about the particular restaurant what do you recall? The Price? The Service?  A good experience will result in you telling friends “I had the most divine meal with a lovely service” Compared to “I paid $27 for a steak and lousy service”

What about when you make a significant purchase like a car….. a while down the track if your car is great, and the salesperson did a great job we seldom recall the price. On the flip side buy a lemon or experience an untrustworthy  salesperson you generally recite something like “This lemon cost me $27,500!”

A poor outcome  often results in price recall and a satisfying purchase often results in us reliving the emotions and feelings created!

Selling Blinds, Awnings and Shutters on a daily basis, we see many people who are “price driven”.  Thankfully for us there are some wonderful clients who appreciate  good old fashioned service and competitive prices for quality goods.

“Actions speak louder than words”

In today’s society we are so hung up on receiving a “good deal” and a “discount” (now there is a blog for another day!) We get so wrapped up in the dollar we forget to price our satisfaction! What we really want is a “good” experience.

The old saying “price is long forgotten after poor quality remains” rings true.

Sometimes the best purchase is not the cheapest. For a little more dollar you may feel at ease with the sales person, or had less concerns, your questions have been answered and most importantly you feel good!

By all means do engage others to  compare products/services and prices where applicable, but just as important as your pay packet each week, is comparing the price of your satisfaction.

No good going ahead with the cheapest option and fighting tooth and nail along the way. Your energy is worth far more than that!

Christmas is nearly here!
